Septet of Rye – Rye Neck – Blind Brook Swimmers Lead Section 1 to State Tournament Championship
The fall sports season is officially over in Rye, as the Rye – Rye Neck – Blind Brook Swimming and Diving Team wrapped up their 2024 action at the state tournament in upstate New York this past weekend (Friday, November 22 – Saturday, November 23). The team sent seven swimmers to participate in the events, all of whom swam well enough on Friday to qualify for Saturday’s finals races.
“The Rye – Rye Neck – Blind Brook swimmers had an amazing State Championship meet in Rochester, NY this past weekend,” Head Coach Katie Konopka told MyRye.com at the conclusion of the busy weekend. The results shook out as follows:
- The 200-meter medley relay team of Kate Chesley, Kayla Lombardo, Megan Tiedemann, and Grayson Findlay (pictured above) placed 7th with a season best time of 1:49.15. They finished eighth, but moved up after a DQ in front of them
- The 200M freestyle relay team of Findlay, Lombardo, Charlize Tavitian, and Ayana Ite placed 19th
- The 400M freestyle relay team of Chesley, Findlay, Ite, and Sophie Boyle placed 13th
- Chesley placed 5th in the 100M backstroke with a career-best time of 57.20. She also placed 37th in the 100M fly
- Lombardo placed 17th in the 100M breaststroke
Rye – Rye Neck – Blind Brook helped Section 1 to an overall state tournament victory with 985 points. The seven swimmers from Konopka’s team played a huge role in that success. The team finishes its season with a 7-2 record, a helping hand in Section 1’s victory at states, and several standout individual performers throughout the year.
