Win #361 for Garr, Garnet Football Heads to State Finals to Face Somers
Rye Boys Varsity Football Coach Dino Garr notched win #361 on Friday, November 8th, 2024 – a Section One record – as his Garnets shucked the Huskers of Yorktown under the lights at Nugent Stadium. The 361 wins? a “testament to a lot of good teams” Garr told MyRye.com after the game.
The Garnets made popcorn with the Huskers with a 21-0 at the half and 35-14 final score. The Garnets played well both offensively and defensively. Henry Shoemaker delivered a big touchdown reception and an interception. Andrew Wilmarth had his first touchdown of the season.
The Garnets next head to Mahopac High School next Friday, November 15th for a 6:00pm kickoff versus Somers for the Section 1 Class A championship. On facing Somers, Garr said: “(They have been) State champs two years in a row. They’re 10-0 and so are we.” Rye did not face Somers last year as it was in Class B, and delivered its own State championship.
