In Memory: Robert “Bob” Fox, Age 94 Years
Robert Peter Fox, Sr., devoted husband, father, friend and dedicated youth baseball coach passed away peacefully on May 17 under the exceptional care of the hospice team at St. Ann’s Community Center, in Rochester, NY. Bob was 94 years old at the time of his passing and proudly called home the vicinity of Port Chester, NY, Byram CT and Greenwich CT for over 70 years. It was in Greenwich where he and his wife of 66 years, Audrey (Griffen) Fox, raised their two sons, Bob Jr. and Jeffrey.
Born on April 25,1930 in Port Chester NY to James and Margaret (McMahon) Fox, Bob attended Greenwich schools where he excelled in both baseball and basketball and was President of the Sr. Class of 1948 at Greenwich HS. Bob served as an altar boy at Sacred Heart Parish in Byram and was a devout Catholic his entire life. He proudly enlisted in the US Air Force in 1949 and following his service began his career as an electrician with IBEW Local 501/Local 3 where he made lifelong friends.
Among the many joys of his full life were the memories held and stories told over the years of his early days playing softball with the Rye Pioneers, gatherings at The Five Points, now Kelly’s Sea Level in Rye, and his 15 + years as a revered youth baseball coach in Port Chester; the Glenville 9th District Vets, and the Greenwich Babe Ruth All Star Teams. There was simply no greater joy for Bob, Sr. than to make the personal and lasting connections with his young players as a coach and to be a mentor to countless young men. He was a very proud member of the Knights of Columbus and the Greenwich Retired Men’s Club.
Bob and Audrey retired to Venice, FL in 2001 where they fostered many new friendships and for Bob that meant more time on the golf course. They happily returned home during the summer months treasuring days with old Greenwich friends at Island Beach and playing golf at The Griff.
The family is forever grateful for the friendship formed over more than two decades of a dedicated companion and caretaker, Rosemary Borrell. Rosemary’s kindness and dedication to Audrey before her passing and to Bob for four years that followed was a gift.
Bob was predeceased by his wife, Audrey in 2019 and his only brother, Jim and is survived by his two sons, Bob, Jr. (Marguerite) of Rye, NY and Jeff (Gale) of Irondequoit, NY. Bob leaves a very proud legacy of five grandsons: John, Ryan, Griffen, Sean and Brendan Fox.
The family looks forward to a Memorial Mass and celebration of his life in early Spring, 2025.
