Stolen Vehicle Arrest by Rye PD on I-95
Rye PD made a stolen vehicle arrest on Friday, December 6, 2024 along Interstate I-95 Southbound in Rye.
Around 2:07pm Friday, Rye PD officers were on patrol in the area of the Boston Post Road and High Street just over the Rye line in Port Chester when they were alerted by the Westchester County Real Time Crime (RTC) Unit of a stolen black Toyota Corolla traveling in the area. The RTC includes a network of cameras with license plate readers across the County that continually monitors vehicles passing by.
The vehicle, reported stolen to the NYPD on December 3, 2024, was located getting onto I-95 South and a traffic stop was initiated. The vehicle’s operator complied and pulled over onto the right shoulder of I-95 southbound, north of exit 18. The vehicle was confirmed stolen by the NYPD and the sole occupant, Jason Almonte, age 41 of New York, NY, was placed under arrest. During an inventory of the vehicle, 174 grams of marijuana was discovered and seized.
Almonte was arrested for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 4th degree, a Class E Felony, as well as Unlawful Possession of Cannabis. Almonte was transported to Rye Police Headquarters for processing and released on his own recognizance with a desk appearance ticket to return to Rye City Court on December 24, 2024 at 9:00am. Rye PD reminds you that booking charges are merely accusations and the defendant(s) are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
