Garnets Basketball Splits Midweek Games Behind Superb Defense

The Rye Boys Basketball Team split their two recent midweek games, dominating Lakeland 51-26 on Tuesday before dropping their Thursday contest against Eastchester 46-42. Rye combined to allow only 68 points across the two games, putting together back-to-back gritty defensive efforts.
“Our convincing victory over Lakeland was a total team effort,” Head Coach Tommy Proudian said of the game on the fourteenth. “11 different Garnets scored in the game. Defense was superb, holding Lakeland to only 26 points.”
Ben Hudson knocked down three triples to lead Rye, finishing with eleven points in total. Carson Miller added ten. Rye led 22-0 after the first quarter in their most dominating eight minutes of the season.
On Thursday, the Garnets mounted a late comebck, which fell just short against Eastchester in a 46-42 defeat. Jake Kessner paced Rye with 19 points.
“Eastchester hit timely shots in this low scoring affair,” Proudian told MyRye.com. “I was very proud of our defense, and the fact we never gave up.”
The Eagles led 41-29 at one point in the fourth quarter before the Garnets found some magic in the form of a 13-4 run. However, their late bid to tie the score fell short, and Rye took their fourth loss of the season.
The team (6-4) are back in action on Wednesday, January 22, as they host the Pelham Pelicans. Game time is scheduled for 4:30pm at the Rye High School gym. Watch it here. Review the replay of Rye vs Lakeland.
