Quick Start Propels Rye Hockey to 5-2 Win on Hockey Fights Cancer Night

The Rye Hockey Team made it two in a row on Friday night (January 24), defeating the Pawling Tigers 5-2. This was Rye’s annual Hockey Fights Cancer Night, with all proceeds going to local causes and research. Rye donned well-designed white and pink jerseys to celebrate, and made good use of them to come out on top.
“We came out strong in the first period and set the tone early with a 3-0 lead before settling in for a 5-2 win in our Rye Hockey Fights Cancer Night,” Head Coach Pete Thomas said to MyRye.com after the win. “Will Niejadlik led the way with two goals and an assist while his twin Max Niejadlik was right there with a goal and two assists.”
Connor Brady netted his first varsity goal and Jamie Morris added a goal as well to round out the scoring. Jamie Showers, Will Weinman, Ryan Draddy, Tyler McDermott, Trevor Dolan, and Will Molin all recorded assists, as ten Garnets found their name on the scoresheet. Owen Fitzgibbons drew the start, making 19 saves on 21 shots and picking up the win. Rye outshot Pawling 15-5 in the first period and 28-21 overall (unofficially).
Thomas and his team (7-5-1) will look to make it three straight in a rematch with Pelham on Wednesday, January 29. Puck drop is set for 7:45pm at Playland, as Rye will look to avenge their recent 3-1 loss to the Pelicans. Watch the win vs Pawling here.
