The #2 Rye Girls Basketball Team started their quest for a Section 1, Class AA championship with a convincing win over #15 Somers on Saturday, February 22. The Garnets defeated the Tuskers 48-23 with a stifling defensive effort to advance to the Elite Eight in their bracket.

Playing with something else in mind, Rye left no doubt about the result of this one. “A terrific night of playoff basketball for the first annual Tiffany O’Toole Memorial Game,” Head Coach Margo Hackett told MyRye.com after the victory.

Tiffany O’Toole sadly passed away on June 27, 2024, and the action on the court tonight was in honor of her. Her daughter, Teaghan O’Toole, played for the Garnets for four years, and is now a senior on the Georgetown Hoyas Women’s Basketball Team.

Paige Tepedino played another strong game for Rye, scoring 15 points. Charlotte Storz stepped up with 13 for a new season high, while Phoebe Greto added 9 points to round out the top three scorers.

#2 Rye (18-3) will look to advance to Class AA’s Final Four in their next contest against #10 Yorktown, who just upset #7 Groton, only allowing 13 points against. Tip off is set for Thursday, February 27, with the time still TBD. It will be played at the RHS gym again, as Rye will host every game they play until the sectional championship.
