Make Rye Great Again?; $1.25/hour; No Josh’ing: Rye City Council Agenda for Wednesday, February 12, 2025

The city council’s agenda for its meeting at 6:30pm on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 is out. The Council will convene at 5:30 p.m. and adjourn into Executive Session to discuss discuss personnel and liability exposure. The meeting will also be aired on Cablevision Channel 75 and Verizon Channel 39. We’ll also see you on the Internet (live and archive).

Formal office hours of the Mayor and other officials have been suspended.

Let’s check the batting order and highlights from the 14 agenda items.

  • Open Mic. Members of the public may be heard on matters for Council consideration that do not appear on the agenda.
  • Greg’s Grist. Report of the City Manager.
  • Fore! Consideration of a request to authorize the City Manager to transfer $282,531.00 from Rye Golf Club’s Reserve Account to the Rye Golf Club Project Account for parking lot repaving.
  • $1.25/hour (plus your “convenience” fee). Consideration of a resolution amending the hourly parking fee in the City of Rye.
  • Make Rye Great Again? Discussion of a potential moratorium in the B-2 and RA zones as it relates to any application to construct or expand any multi-family, mixed-use, or non-residential development.
  • 911. Authorization for the City Manager to sign all necessary documents with Pierce and designate the funds for the purchase of a new ladder for the Rye Fire Department.
  • No 311. Discussion of a potential amendment to the City Charter Section C23-1. “Liability in certain actions” to exclude electronic notification through email or the City website as constituting prior written notice.
  • eBay. Resolution to declare certain City equipment as surplus.
  • No Josh’ing. Mayor’s message.
  • Boo! and Turkey. CONSENT AGENDA a) Consideration of a request from Rye Recreation for the closing of Purchase Street for the 72nd annual Halloween Window Painting Event on Sunday, October 19, 2025, with a rain date of Sunday, October 25, 2025. This event will require the City to close Purchase Street from the Square House to Purdy Ave from 8:00 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.; b) Consideration of a request from Rye Recreation for the use of City streets on November 29th, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for the 48th annual Turkey Run.

The next regular meeting of the City Council will be held on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at 6:30pm.
