Rye Hockey Erases Three Goal Deficit vs Horace Greeley For Eighth Consecutive Victory

The Rye Hockey Team scored seven goals across the final two periods of their home game on Monday night, picking up a 7-4 victory over Horace Greeley. The Garnets trailed 3-0 after the first period but recovered over the final 34 minutes to win their eighth game in a row.
“We came out flat to start the game and were a little on our heels, and allowed them to jump on us early,” Head Coach Pete Thomas told MyRye.com after the game. “We regrouped between periods and got our game going in the second.”
Jamie Morris got the Garnets on the board as part of a three-goal second period with his first of three goals on the night. Will Niejadlik and Tyler McDermott both scored as well to send the teams to the second intermission knotted at three apiece. Greeley took the lead back briefly in the 3rd on a short handed goal before Morris scored his second of the game on the same Rye powerplay to tie the score at 4-4. Will Weinman followed with the game-winning goal off an assist by Tyler McDermott, as both players picked up their second points of the game. Morris completed his first varsity hat trick on an empty net goal assisted by Trevor Dolan to make it 6-4, and Niejadlik capped the rally off with a second empty net goal for his second of the night off a pass by Luke Davies.
The effort pushes Rye’s season record to 13-5-1 after a 5-5-1 mark through the first eleven games. They have one more contest on tap before the postseason begins, a non-league road tilt against North Rockland Tuesday, February 18, at 5:30pm.
