It’s Hamish Fenton Day in Rye on Thursday

Rye Josh Cohn and the Rye City Council made it official Wednesday evening: Thursday, March 27, 2025 will be Hamish Fenton Day in the City of Rye. Over the last few years, the Rye community has rallied around Hamish, who has been fighting a rare pediatric cancer. He turns 13 on Wednesday. There have been a variety of fundraisers over the last couple of years, including a GoFundMe launched in October 2023 that has raised $275,000.
“We generally don’t dedicate days to people,” said Rye Mayor Josh Cohn to an expanse of Hamish’s friends in City Council chambers. “It’s just not something that we as a council do. But we’ve just heard so much that’s terrific about you, Hamish, that when we heard it was going to be your birthday, we said, oh, gee, we’ve got to do this.”
Cohn went on to read the City’s proclamation. Not to be outdone, Rye resident and Westchester County Legislator Catherine Parker showed up to widen Hamish’s reach – she had arranged for Westchester County to declare it Hamish Fenton day across the entire Westchester County – all one million residents. Hamish’s name will be on the jumbotron at the County Center all day Thursday.
If you are wondering how to celebrate, the Rye Starbucks will be selling a purple drink to honor Hamish from 7am to 10am Thursday. And Longford’s Ice Cream will be selling a “Hamish milkshake” with a portion of the proceeds going to the Memorial Sloan Kettering cancer center.
