Rye Athlete of the Month: Drew Dolan, Varsity Hockey

Athlete of the Month is a series where MyRye.com profiles the best athletes of each month throughout the academic year selected by Rye Athletics. Today, we look at senior Drew Dolan of the Rye Varsity Hockey Team, who earned Rye High School’s Athlete of the Month honors for February 2025.
“Drew is a constant for us,” Head Coach Pete Thomas told MyRye.com when speaker about his senior captain. “You know that you will get consistent and positive leadership and you know that you will get unmatched effort on every shift.”
Dolan was named a captain ahead of the 2024-25 season and delivered on that decision with an excellent season both on and off the ice. He was a key contributor all year, and pucks started finding the back of the net in February, as the second-year varsity player helped Rye turn a 5-5-1 record into a 16-6-1 mark and a sectional championship.
“[Dolan] is the kind of player who doesn’t always show up on the scoresheet, but his plays are the ones that lead to the goals,” Thomas told MyRye.com. “He was a major factor on the scoresheet in our section championship win over Pelham, scoring two goals, including a beautiful short-handed tally.

Dolan’s second goal against Pelham was one of Rye’s best highlights from a very successful season on the ice, which recently ended with a state quarterfinal loss to Ogdensburg Free Academy on Saturday, March 8, 2025. The left winger helped the Garnets to a perfect 6-0 record in February, which was the only reason a trip to upstate New York for the state tournament was possible.
Dolan becomes the sixth Garnet to win Athlete of the Month, joining Kaden Zion (Boys Soccer, September), Caroline Doyle (Field Hockey, October), Bowyn Brown (Girls Soccer, November), Jake Kessner (Boys Basketball, December), and Erin Ball (Indoor Track and Field, January).
