It wasn’t that long ago that the Rye Girls Basketball Team failed to reach double digits in the win column. In fact, that was last season, when the Garnets went 9-12. One year later, the team just recorded win number 20, and have a golden opportunity to win a golden prize next weekend.

#2 Rye defeated #3 Tappan Zee 57-51 in the Class AA semi-finals on Tuesday, March 4, to move within one win of a league championship. It was their third straight playoff win and 20th overall, moving them to a combined 20-3 on the season including non-league games, league contests, and postseason play.

A usual distributor of the basketball, Paige Tepedino racked up 25 points to lead the Garnets on a very efficient day from the floor. Phoebe Greto did her thing too, with 18 points and strong work in the paint on both sides of the court.

The Garnets rematch against #1 Walter Panas at 5:00pm on Saturday, March 8, with a chance to lift the Gold Ball above their heads at the Westchester County Center. Panas previously defeated Rye towards the end of the regular season. Watch the win vs Tappan Zee here (note: a SportsEngine account is required to view). See the full bracket here.
