Boys Tennis Bounces Back for 6-1 Victory Over Mamaroneck

The Rye Boys Tennis Team picked up their second win of the season on Wednesday, April 9th, defeating Mamaroneck 6-1 on the road. All three singles slots picked up individual victories, and three of the Garnets’ four doubles duos outdueled their Tiger counterparts.
“Rye had a commanding win today against Mamaroneck,” Head Coach Sue Dickson told MyRye.com. “It’s great to see the players build up their confidence and communication with the doubles teams.”
The top three doubles teams all won after falling to Scarsdale yesterday. Lou Kim-Reuter and Filip Glitterstam breezed through their match 6-0, 6-2 in the top spot. Xavier Morell celebrated his birthday with a super tiebreaker win alongside his brother Timothy 6-2, 4-6, (10-8). Marcos Becker and Tayga Vurol teamed up for a two-set triumph over their counterparts as well.
In singles, all three competitors – Grant Lobo, Alex Gordon, and Luke Gordon – played long games and long sets. Lobo was in a 6-6 tie in set two after losing set one before his opponent Max Li retired. Alex won his first set 7-5 and the second 6-1 to pull away on top, while his brother Luke took out his opposite in straight sets (6-4, 6-2).
“The singles players are strong and analytical so they are able to figure out different strategies that work to help them come out with a win,” Dickson told MyRye.com.
Rye’s only loss in fourth doubles came in a super tiebreaker.
The Garnets (2-1) will play for a third straight day on Thursday, April 10th. They host Horace Greeley at Rye Recreation for a 4:30pm start.
The Gordon match scores were 1st and 2nd sets. Both matches were straight set victories.
