The Rye Girls Golf Team suffered a razor-close defeat on Tuesday, April 8, falling to Scarsdale 231-235 in their season opener. Seven athletes combined to lead the Garnets to a solid team output, but it was just four strokes too many against a tough Raiders opponent.

“Rye played in their first home match in extremely difficult conditions against the defending New York State team Scarsdale Raiders,” Head Coach Rich Savage told MyRye.com after the match. His players had to bundle up, including a rare sight – beanies on the green. “It was that cold,” Savage continued.

The low-40s temperatures and feels-like numbers flirting with freezing did not stop Myla Bisceglia from medaling for the Garnets. Her score of 40 was the best on the team, and the senior captain was the only top three individual finisher for the outing. Other scorers for Rye were:

Laeticia Clauss (47)
Matilda Glitterstam (47)
Tori Hobbins (47)
Iciar Garate (54)
Leila Kubursi (55)

The Garnets (0-1) will look to bounce back on short notice, as they take on Edgemont tomorrow, Wednesday 4/9, at Sunningdale Country Club. Start time is scheduled for 3:10pm for the road match.
