Going Native: Container Planting with Dominique Biondi of Ecologic

Going Native is our gardening series highlighting the contribution of native plants to building resilient landscapes. MyRye.com will introduce you to native plant experts that will tell you ways to get started with a small garden patch, a complete property or just a few garden containers.
Today we speak with Dominique Biondi of Ecologic.
MyRye.com: What are good options for native plants to put in a container, for placement on a deck or patio?

Biondi: Containers are great, but not zero maintenance. Be sure to water them – especially during the heat of the summer. If going away, stick a waterer inside the dirt to glug.
- Wild basil (Clinopodium vulgare). Easy to care for and lovely flowers. Very pest resistant.
- Woodland stonecrop (Sedum ternatum). A native succulent with unbeatable flower power – watch the bees go crazy!
- Purple poppy mallow (Callirhoe involucrata). You’ll see why.
