Rye Varsity Hockey MVP: Fernando Mosquera

Rye Varsity Hockey Head Coach Peter Thomas has named his MVP for the 2024-25 season: sophomore goaltender Fernando Mosquera.
“Fernando was a rock for us in net this year,” Thomas told MyRye.com. “He gave us so much stability in the position and allowed us to be aggressive on the ice.”
Mosquera was voted MVP by his teammates and confirmed to win the award by Thomas, who noted how “instrumental” the sophomore was in goal for Rye as part of the league-champion Garnets. Their victories over Suffern (2-1) and Pelham (6-0 in the sectional championship game) were some of Mosquera’s best work throughout the winter.
The goaltender finished the year 13-2 with a sparkling .929 save percentage and 1.93 goals-against average. His work in the crease earned him All-League, All-Section, and 2nd-Team All-State honors. Mosquera will be back next year in hopes of another strong season between the pipes for the hockey team.
