Years in the Making, a New Girls Softball Field @ Rye High School

Years on the making, the new Rye Girls Softball field opened this afternoon with the varsity and junior varsity teams, coaches, school administration and other advocates enjoying the moment. A ribbon was cut, words were said and the first pitch was thrown out by Rye High School Principal Andrew Hara to Coach Amanda Yannett.
Genevieve Weber (Gilmore), president of Rye Girls Softball gave credit to one of her predecessors, who began to advocate for the field about eight years ago. “Thank you to the OG. Sarah Ball … [she] was the previous president, who also started the conversations about the inequity across the fields.”
This whole field renovation process was priceless, and shows the administration’s commitment to the sport of softball, the softball families and ultimately [to] our women athletes,” finished Weber
Rye Girls Varsity Softball Senior Captain Ava Cross said “Standing on this beautiful new field, I feel an overwhelming sense of pride. This renovation isn’t just about fresh dirt and grass or our first new scoreboard that’s yet to come. It’s about recognizing all the players and families who helped build this program over the years… Softball is taught me about teamwork, resilience, leadership and pride, and it has given me a second family.”
The field was funded via a successful budget override. Within the next week or so, a new scoreboard, funded by Rye Girls Softball and the Rye Fund for Education, will arrive.
