The Rye Boys Tennis team suffered their worst loss of the 2025 season on Thursday, May 1, dropping a matchup to the Scarsdale Raiders 6-1. Scarsdale entered as a premier opponent, and Rye struggled with personnel missing.

“With depleted ranks today with two of the three singles players out, Rye had to substitute and juggle the line up to see if they could match up with the very strong, top ranked Scarsdale,” Head Coach Sue Dickson told MyRye.com. “There was good sportsmanship across the board and I’m proud of how our guys rose to the challenge.”

The sole victory belonged to Timothy Morell and Barcos Becker – teammates from last year who reunited to pick up a win in the super tiebreaking third set. The box score for the duo was 6-2, 1-6 (10-7).

Xavier Morell, brother Timothy’s usual doubles partner, took to singles for the first time as a varsity athlete, making it close in set to but falling 6-2, 6-4. Rye’s other tight matchups were in third singles with CJ Loizeau in his season debut, falling 6-1, 6-7 (7-5), and Filip Glitterstam and Lou Kim-Reuter, who lost the tiebreaker in a 6-1, 7-6 (10-4) scoreline at top doubles. Alex Gordon, Tayga Vural, Nate Bertisch, Dylan Smailes, and Carter Hudspeth were the Garnets’ other competitors on a day where the roster was greatly shuffled.

Rye (5-3) next plays at home against Horace Greeley on Monday, May 5, at 4:30pm.
