The Rye Girls Golf team shined at the 2025 Section 1 championship tournament, claiming second place in a very competitive eight-team field. The Garnets conclude the season behind only Scarsdale in their section after an 11-1 regular season record, and have three individual golfers moving on to the next round.

“Battling gusty winds and challenging conditions, the Garnets delivered a remarkable performance in both the team and individual competitions,” Head Coach Rich Savage told MyRye.com after the event. “The Rye squad… showed exceptional focus, resilience, and determination throughout the day.”

The fivesome Savage called upon to represent the Garnets on Monday, May 19, were Myla Bisceglia, Leila Kubursi, Matilda Glitterstam, Phoebe Lee, and Laeticia Clauss. All five players earned All-League honors for helping Rye to a well-earned runner-up finish, one better than the Garnets fared last year, when they ended in third.

“Their consistency and poise under tough weather conditions were instrumental in securing the second-place plaque for Rye – a testament to their preparation, teamwork, and competitive spirit,” Savage lauded.

Three of the five – Bisceglia, Glitterstam, and Kubursi – scored in the top half of the 40 contestants across all eight schools, and advance to day two of the NYSPHSAA Individual State Qualifier. Those athletes are back at it tomorrow, Wednesday 5/21, at Whipporwill Club in Armonk.

“The entire Rye golf community is proud of the team’s achievements and looks forward to seeing Myla, Matilda, and Leila continue to represent the Garnets with excellence as they compete for a chance to play in the New York State Championship,” Savage told MyRye.com.
