The Rye Softball Team forged a sixth-inning comeback on Tuesday, May 6, earning a hard-fought 8-8 tie against the Edgemont Panthers. The Garnets have still not lost in the month of May and just picked up their first non-loss result on their new home field.

“Great comeback by the team,” Head Coach Alex Tejera told MyRye.com after the game. “Big pinch hit single by Rosie Zicherman to keep the rally going in the last inning,”

Zicherman singled in her only at-bat as part of a three-run sixth inning. The tying run was scored on an RBI walk by Caroline Joyce, who also had a hit in the game. Jill DeSanto went 3-4 with a run and two steals. Emma Starks also reached three times, all on walks, and also stole two bags. Ava Cross tripled and scored a run, and Reese McGill shone with two hits, a run, and three RBIs.

Rye (3-7-1) has seemingly turned a corner after starting the year with a seven-game losing streak, with three wins and a tie since the calendar flipped from April. They will look to keep the momentum going in their next matchup on Wednesday, May 7, as they host Byram Hills. The Garnets have already defeated the Bobcats 12-3 this year.
