Athlete of the Month is a series where MyRye.com profiles the best athletes of each month throughout the academic year selected by Rye Athletics. Today, we look at senior Tucker Hess of the Rye Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team, who earned Rye High School’s Athlete of the Month honors for April 2025.

“Tucker is a truly amazing athlete and person,” Head Coach Steven Lennon said of Hess to MyRye.com. “He is one of the greatest teammates that I have ever coached.”

Hess, a team captain, helped Rye to a 6-2 record through the team’s first eight games as their biggest offensive threat. Just this month, the attacker recorded a record nine assists and ten points in a win against Pelham on May 3, and his Garnets are now 9-2 and on a five-game winning streak.

The playmaker is up to 146 career points (62 goals, 84 assists) after a 1-goal, 3-assist showing against Eastchester, with plenty of damage done during a productive month of April. He stands alone in 9th place on Rye’s all-time points list, trailing Billy Chabot ’18 by just fourteen. Above all, however, Lennon is most impressed by Hess’ continued leadership and attitude, which not only led to his individual success in April, but that of the entire Rye team.

“Tucker is always the first person to celebrate his peers, and puts a tremendous amount of energy into making sure he is there to help every single member of our team,” Lennon told MyRye.com. “He is a fierce competitor, but he is also empathetic, kind, and a great leader who serves his teammates.”

Hess and the Garnets have four more regular season games left on tap, with more to follow in the postseason if they win. With five straight sectional titles under their belt, and sitting atop their league standings right now, Rye still has plenty of runway to go. Hess, committed to Villanova lacrosse in the class of 2029, will be the centerpiece of a prolific attack and rock-solid locker room.

“I am so happy Tucker Hess was chosen as athlete of the month, because he represents everything the Lion’s Club stands for and is an elite level athlete,” Lennon said.
