The Rye Baseball Team defeated Harrison 5-3 on Saturday, May 10, in the annual Andrew Gurgitano Memorial Game. The visiting Garnets scored four times in the fifth inning to erase a 3-1 deficit to pick up a remarkable tenth straight win.
Peter Davies settled in nicely on the mound to pick up his sixth win of the year, throwing 3.2 innings in relief and striking out six Huskies. Charlie Rupp earned a four-out save with one punchout to secure the victory.
Rye’s offensive attack was very balanced, with Jackson Pineault reaching base all four times on three walks and a hard-hit single. Jamie Morris went 2-4 with an RBI, and Lucas London also recorded an RBI in the fifth innings. Harry Ellis and Nolan Hutson both doubled to account for the Garnets’ only extra-base hits.
Michael Bruno and his squad have a very real chance to be the #1 seed for the playoffs at 14-3, with three more games to play. The first of those is tomorrow, Monday 5/12, on the road against Eastchester. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30pm against the Eagles. A win would clinch the Garnets sole possession of first place in League A-1.
