The Rye Softball Team claimed their third consecutive “Have a Heart” tournament championship on Sunday, May 18, defeating the Westlake Wildcats 14-0 in five innings. Rye has now won this event all three years it has been played dating back to 2023.

“Great tournament for a great cause,” Head Coach Alex Tejera told MyRye.com after the victory. “The team played great and finished the season strong.”

Penelope Gilmore shined on the mound with a three-hit complete game shutout. She was given plenty of run support, with standout offensive performances from Caroline Joyce (4-4, 2 doubles, 2 RBIs, 3 runs), Ava Rollano (2-3, walk, run), and Ava Cross (1-3, 2B, hit by pitch, RBI, run). The top of Rye’s order had four plate appearances each in just five innings.

The Garnets take a 7-11-1 record into the upcoming week, when the postseason begins. Their first game of playoff action is TBD.
