The #1 Rye Boys Lacrosse team made light work of #9 John Jay – Cross River on Tuesday, May 27, eliminating the Wolves and advancing to the Class C semifinals in a 13-0 rout. The Garnets ceded only four shots on goal throughout the entire game to move within two wins of another sectional championship.
As has been the case all season, Rye’s best offensive weapons spread the love en route to 13 goals. Will Niejadlik had the best day with four goals and six points, and he was supported by other multi-goal performances from Tyler McDermott (hat trick), Charlie Brady, and Henry Gilroy. Tucker Hess and Chris Iuliano also had two points apiece.
Ty Ramachandran earned the shutout with four stops and Wilson Redd (12/14) and Thomas Goldszer (2/2) had no problem in the faceoff circle.
The #1 Garnets advance to the semifinals, where they will host #4 Tappan Zee at 5:00pm on Friday, May 30 at Nugent Stadium. The winner of that game plays for the Section 1 Class C championship on Tuesday, June 3, with the other two schools still alive being #2 Somers and #3 Pearl River. I’ve been analyzing the WHY of our success. IT goes back to the Bedini mentality developed independently by Tom Lennon…Practice, practice, practice, and conditioning along with coaching awareness and skills. That and the simple concept of You can’t score if you don’t take shots. We played LaCrosse and JJ played catch.
