Rye PD arrested a 45 year old man for DWI Wednesday afternoon in downtown Rye.

At 12:35pm on Wednesday, a sergeant from Rye PD was traveling east on Locust Avenue in the area Theodore Fremd Avenue in a marked patrol car when a 2014 Nissan Sentra pulled out in front of his vehicle from a parked position.

The sergeant conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and interviewed the operator and sole occupant, Mario R. Monroy, 45, of Port Chester. During the interview, the sergeant observed signs of intoxication. Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were administered, which Monroy failed.

Monroy consented to a breath test where he provided a sample of .11 %BAC. He was processed and released with a Desk Appearance Ticket returnable to Rye City Court on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at 9:00am.
Monroy was charged with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI): previous convictions of designated offenses within 10 years, a class E felony; Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 1st Degree: Aggravated DWI Conviction, a class E felony and Interlock Device Required: Class A Misdemeanor.

Rye PD reminds you that booking charges are merely accusations and the defendant(s) are presumed
innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
