Traffic and delays should be expected across Post Road, Milton Road and Midland Avenue for the next week due to the installation of modular sections of the new classroom wing at Midland Elementary School. Eleven modular classroom units have been arriving to the snow lot on the Boston Post Road across from the Rye High School, the staging area for the project.
Transport of the units to Midland Elementary School will begin on the morning of Monday, July 21, 2025. Intermittent road closures are expected between 6:00am and 7:00pm while these units are trucked through town.
The pieces will be travelling from the snow lot on the Boston Post Road across from the Rye High School campus, up Parsons Street, taking a right onto Milton Avenue, then taking a left down Apawamis Avenue, before taking a left onto Midland Avenue before arriving at the school.
Weather permitting, the crane used for assembly will be delivered on Monday, July 21 to begin the installation. The installation work will continue on Tuesday and Wednesday. If the weather cooperates, the work is expected to finish next Thursday.
These are permanent classrooms funded from the 2019 $80 million capital bond. They will be placed on permanent foundations and connected to utilities and to the main building.
A similar installation of modular classrooms is expected for Osborn Elementary School for the end of July. These classrooms will replace the old portable trailer classrooms that had overstayed their welcome at both schools.
