A 56 year old Rye man was arrested at Fireman’s Circle on Friday evening for DWI.
At approximately 10:12pm on Friday, a traffic stop was initiated by the City of Rye Police Department on a 2024 Cadillac Escalade after observing the vehicle fail to yield to a marked patrol vehicle at the yield sign at Fireman’s Circle. Upon approaching the vehicle, the Rye police officer observed the driver, later identified as 56 year old Thomas M. Davitt III of Rye, exhibiting bloodshot and watery eyes and detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the vehicle.
Officers administered Standardized Field Sobriety Tests which Davitt failed. Based on the officer’s observations Davitt was arrested and transported to Rye police headquarters where he refused to submit to chemical a test. Davitt was processed and then released on an appearance ticket returnable to the City of Rye Court on September 9, 2025 at 9:00am to answer to a charge of Driving While Intoxicated.
Rye PD reminds you that booking charges are merely accusations and the defendant(s) are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
