The Valerie Perkins era could not have started any better for Rye Field Hockey, as the Garnets crushed Pelham 8-0 in the season opener on Wednesday, September 3. Rye scored early and often to become the first Garnets athletic squad to earn a win in the 2025 fall season.
“We set the tone for the season by scoring our first goal within three minutes of the game starting,” Perkins told MyRye.com after her first game as head coach. “It was a great team win with goals scored by six different players.”
Senior captain Sienna Myers buried a great feed from Beau Whaling to get Rye on the board right away. The offense continued to cascade on the overmatched Pelicans, with other tallies from Kendall Bahl, Whaling, Kaitlyn Coyne, Maggie Swanson, and Liv Prata. The Garnets outshot Pelham 16-3.
Rye (1-0) will host Ursuline in their next contest on Friday, September 5. The home opener will begin at 5:00pm at Nugent Stadium. Watch it here.
