The Rye – Rye Neck – Blind Brook Girls Swimming and Diving team kicked off their 2025 season with a close victory over Yorktown-Somers on Wednesday, September 10, winning 49-45. The team saw five athletes compete in their first ever varsity meet, and did enough to claim the four-point victory to start the year 1-0.
Rye junior Kate Chesley won the 100M backstroke to instantly qualify for the sectional and state championship meet. She also took first place in the 200M individual medley (IM). Other individual event winners included 8th-grader Elena McGlynn (200M freestyle, her first win in her first race), Clare McGlynn (100M butterfly), and Sophie Boyle (100M breaststroke).
The 200M medley relay of Chesley, McGlynn, Charlotte Tait, and Grayson Findlay placed first in their event, while the 400M freestyle relay of Chesley, Findlay, Quinn Boyle, and Sophie Boyle also ended up winning. With the score as close as it was, every placement mattered, especially the five individual and two team winners.
McGlynn, Tait, Lucie Megret (Rye Neck), Brynn McFarland (Rye Neck), and Elena Rojas (Rye) all claimed a team victory in their first varsity meet.
Rye – Rye Neck – Blind Brook (1-0) next competes on Friday, September 12, against Ardsley – Dobbs Ferry. The meet is scheduled for 4:30pm at the Hommocks pool in Mamaroneck, Rye – Rye Neck – Blind Brook’s home location.
