The Rye Boys Soccer team suffered their first defeat of the 2025 season on Wednesday, September 10, dropping a 3-0 decision to Byram Hills. The Garnets failed to score for the first time all season to drop to 2-1-1 on the year.

“It was a tough, physical match against a quality opponent that was motivated to beat us,” Head Coach Jared Small told MyRye.com after the loss. “While we played a solid first 40 minutes, Byram Hills took capitalized on our imprecision building out of the back midway through the first half and the 1-0 hole proved difficult to climb out of.”

The Bobcats scored off a defensive turnover from Rye in the first half to take a 1-0 lead into halftime. They struck again quickly out of the break to double the lead before adding a late insurance tally with the Garnets pressing for offense.

“A late third goal made the scoreline a little more lopsided than the match probably was, but all in all it was a convincing win for Byram Hills,” Small admitted. “Even – maybe especially – in our championship seasons, we’ve taken a hard loss in mid-September and learned from it, so our response to this setback will be more significant than the outcome of this single match.”

Rye (2-1-1) travels to Pearl River for an away match on Friday, September 12, at 5:00pm. This will be the team’s fifth match in nine days to open the 2025 season, all against quality opponents. Watch the recent loss here.
