The Rye Boys Soccer team stayed unbeated on Monday, September 8, as they took down Westlake High School 5-2. The Garnets rattled off three unanswered goals after letting a 2-0 lead slip away to come out on top.
“Alex Rojas re-entered the match in the second half and made an impact, using his pace and ability with both feet to add an important dimension to our attack,” Head Coach Jared Small told MyRye.com after the victory. “His shot to the lower left side of the goal forced a rebound, and Connor Dehmer struck the bouncing ball with authority to beat the goalkeeper for what proved to be the match winner. Rojas would then add a goal of his own on a beautiful cut to the inside and left-footed curler to the far post.”
The goals from Dehmer (his second career varsity tally) and Rojas came just three minutes apart in the middle of the second half, and Rye would add another insurance tally courtesy of a fortunate break for Felix Wismer. Kasen Scarperi buried two chances in the first half to get Rye going as his strong start to the 2025 season continued.
Will Alexander debuted in goal, making three saves and picking up his first career varsity win. William Christiansson Molin drew the start at defense for the first time, and Small praised his efforts on the back line. Rye’s only goals against came off a well-executed counter attack and rare indirect free kick from inside the 6-yard box.
The Garnets improve to 2-0-1 and have scored nine goals through their first three contests. They have collected seven points in their first three games, all of which came against highly-touted opponents. Small and his club will look to keep the good times rolling in their next matchup against the ever-dangerous Byram Hills Bobcats at home on Wednesday, September 10. The stage is set for 5:00pm at Nugent Stadium. Watch it here.
