The Rye Girls Basketball team won their fifth straight game out of the gate on Monday, December 22, defeating rival Harrison 58-33. In the rescheduled Rye Rotary Challenge game in honor of the late Tiffany O’Toole, the Garnets earned a second convincing win against a Huskies team that gave them some trouble just last season.
“Big league win vs. Harrison,” Head Coach Margo Hackett confirmed after the final buzzer.
The Garnets saw as a combined nine three pointers from Charlotte Storz and Stella Maresca rained/snowed down on the Huskies’ basket. Storz ended up winning the game’s MVP award with 23 points, a season high and fueled by five makes from beyond the arc. Maresca followed close behind with sixteen points and four triples. Those two combined to outscore Harrison alone 39-33.
This was the second annual Rye Rotary Challenge game in honor of Tiffany O’Toole, who passed away from ovarian cancer in 2024. The game serves as a fundraiser for ovarian cancer research efforts.
Rye improves to 5-0 with the victory, and have ceded just 35.8 points per game through five wins. They have also yet to allow more than 49 in a single game, and have held opponents below 40 now three times. The Garnets will ride that momentum into a very jolly holiday break, which is interrupted by their trip to Florida. The first game in the Sunshine State is tentatively scheduled for Monday, December 29. Replay the Harrison win here.
