The Rye – Blind Brook Swim and Dive team opened the Rye winter athletics season on Monday, December 1, falling to non-league rival Harrison. The Garnet Trojans lost 51-43 on the road to start off the year 0-1.

“The Rye – Blind Brook Boys’ Swim and Dive team had a great first meet against non-league opponent Harrison,” Head Coach Katie Konopka told MyRye.com after the meet. “Six swimmers competed in their first varsity meet: Tipu Ghosh, Daniel Morris, Liam O’Byrne, Owen Picker, Darren Sinha, and Charlie Thigpen.”

Picker took first place in his first ever event, the 500M freestyle. He also won the 200 free relay on a team with Nick Stocks, Liam O’Byrne, and Wilson Redd. Redd, a Rye junior, qualified for sectionals with his low, winning time in the 50 free. Sami Jazbeh showed off his offseason training by earning a career best time in the 100 breaststroke.

The boys will look to get back in the win column in their next meet. They went 4-6 last year but will compete in a new merged teams league in 2026.
