Athlete of the Month is a series where MyRye.com profiles the best athletes of each month throughout the academic year, as selected by Rye Athletics. Today, we look at senior Clare Nemsick of the Rye Girls Soccer team, who earned Rye High School’s Athlete of the Month honors for November 2025.

“Clare Nemsick, a four-year starter for the Garnets, closes her Rye career as one of the most accomplished players in program history,” Head Coach Rich Savage told MyRye.com, speaking of his co-captain and co-MVP. “She has helped lead the team to four League titles, three Section 1 Class A titles, three regional titles, and two NYS Class A Championships.”

Nemsick was the key cog in the center of the pitch throughout Rye’s historic 2025 season, which saw them go undefeated en route to a second State title in three years. Nemsick’s presence in the middle was one of the main reasons Rye did not allow any goals in postseason play, going 8-0 with eight clean sheets. She also regularly chipped in offensively on set pieces, especially corner kicks, providing an extra scoring boost at key times. The offense-defense combination led the Garnets to a 5-0 November record, Sectional title, Regional title, and State championship. Individually, Nemsick took home team MVP and now Athlete of the Month, capping off an exceptional four-year varsity soccer career.

“Playing every minute of every season across her four years, Clare anchored the defense with unmatched steadiness and intelligence,” Savage continued. “Calm and composed under pressure, she leads by example and is respected not only by her teammates, but by opponents across Section 1 and throughout New York State.”

Nemsick joins Lex Cox (Boys Soccer, October 2025) and Emma Lunstead (Volleyball, September 2025) as the Athletes of the Month from the fall season. She is committed to Bucknell University as a member of the Class of 2030, where she will continue both her soccer and lacrosse careers at the Division 1 level beginning next fall.
