The Rye Girls Squash team started their season off in the win column on Tuesday, December 2, as they squeezed past Greenwich HS 4-3. The Garnets came out ready to go against a solid Fairwest League opponent and did enough to walk away victorious and open the winter 1-0.

“Rye started off the season with a win against in a close, very evenly matched contest against Fairwest League opponent Greenwich HS at the Field Club of Greenwich,” Head Coach Tony Campbell told MyRye.com. “Rye won the best of 7 match 4-3 with two impressive wins by freshmen Sophie Ehrlich and Emma Crozier playing in their first Rye HS matches. After her opponent battled back to take the third game, Emma played her best squash in the fourth to win 3-1 and secure the team victory.”

Crozier’s four-game victory was the closest Rye came to letting the season opener slip away, as their other victories came in clean sweeps. Senior co-captain Mia Howson, Emma Pedone, and Alex DiMeo all earned convincing 3-0 wins in their varsity debuts to propel the Garnets to the 4-3 team victory.

Rye (1-0) is back in action later today, Wednesday 12/3, as they travel to Hackley for a 4:30pm road matchup.
