Early Monday evening Rye PD arrested a 45 year old man for driving while impaired by drugs.
On December 22, 2025, Rye PD arrested Robert Thornton Haile, age 45, of Norwalk, Connecticut. Haile was charged with New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law 1192.4 Driving while Impaired by Drugs, as well as multiple traffic violations.
At approximately 5:25pm on Monday, a Rye PD officer observed a running vehicle stopped on the sidewalk of Forest Avenue near the intersection of Beck Avenue. According to police, a traffic stop was initiated and the driver was observed unresponsive in the driver seat. Robert Thornton Haile was identified as the operator and sole occupant. Haile eventually acknowledged the officer and exited his vehicle. Officers administered Standardized Field Sobriety Tests which Haile failed. Based on the officer’s observations, Haile was arrested and transported to Rye Police Headquarters where he refused to submit to a chemical test. During an inventory of Haile’s vehicle 27 canisters of nitrous oxide were recovered.
Haile was released on an appearance ticket returnable to the City of Rye Court on January 6, 2026, at 9:00am. Rye PD reminds you that booking charges are merely accusations and the defendant(s) are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
