In a letter, the New York State Turf & Landscape Association, a trade group based in White Plains, says the new legislation to ban gas leaf blowers in the City of Rye is “outrageous”. A promotional flyer encouraging its members to attend next week’s city council meeting says “this is the time to speak up and protect our livelihood”.

Gina Pezzola, the group’s administrator, submitted this letter to MyRye.com:

As representatives of hundreds of professional landscape contractors, arborists, etc., we find the new legislation installed by the City of Rye to be unreasonable, outrageous and almost impossible to perform the professional results that are expected of our clients and be able to manage any profit whatsoever.

· The new restrictions would only allow one piece of equipment to be used at a time on a property.

· What would happen if a tree arborist has a chainsaw going and has to put on his chipper or equivalent going, it’s prohibited.

· What if masons are using a wet saw and cement mixer at the same time? Again, this is prohibited.

Yet there are many exclusions for governmental agencies, schools, golf courses, etc. It’s absolute craziness and there must be compromised amendments to this.

We fully plan to express our condemnation of these legislative requirements and hope that we can intelligently discuss compromises that make sense for our business members, as well as, our Rye City clients.

We need a reasonable fair compromise.
