The Rye Girls Basketball team won their ninth consecutive game to open the season on Saturday, January 3, defeating Westlake 57-38. Senior forward Phoebe Greto scored a game-high 22 points for the Garnets in the victory, including her 1000th as a Garnet at the varsity level.

“We are so proud of her and her accomplishments,” Head Coach Margo Hackett said of her star player after the win and her personal achievement. “She was also named the MVP of the game played at the County Center.”

Rye’s defense came to play once again to back Greto’s scoring, as Charlotte Storz and Stella Maresca combined for ten steals (and 25 points on the other end). As a team, the Garnets once again held their opponents to under 40 points, their fifth such instance in their nine wins.

Greto also casually came down with 11 boards for the double-double, solidly earning her MVP honors.

The Garnets (9-0) will look to stay hot on Wednesday, January 7, as they travel to Ardsley for a road contest beginning at 4:30pm.
