The Rye Boys Basketball team earned their tenth win of the season on Monday, February 2, as they took down Nyack 52-42. The Garnets jumped out to a 19-9 lead after one quarter of play and, while that lead fluctuated throughout the game, a 10-0 scoring run to open the second half put the game away for good.
“Nice to get a bounceback section win after tough loss to Woodlands on Friday night,” Head Coach Tommy Proudian told MyRye.com. “Good scoring distribution from starters… Happy with the effort off the bench as well.”
Rye was led by Henry Shoemaker’s 14 points and Ben Hudson’s 13. Carson Miller and Milo Shirakawa also held their own, and tertiary scoring off the bench from Gavin McKiernan, Ryan Hess, Cal Wing, and Sam Scully all played a part in the very balanced effort against a strong defensive team.
The Garnets are now 4-0 this season in games after a loss, meaning they are 10-1 in games immediately following losses under Proudian, including 2024-25. While this victory over Nyack is an important one, the head coach knows there is more work to be done.
“We most likely have to win our final six Section games to finish in top 4 in Class A, which is the goal,” Proudian said. “That guarantees us two home playoff games when try to advance to the county center Final Four in Class A sectional playoffs.”
Rye (10-4) hosts Harrison in their next game on Wednesday, February 4, as their journey to home court advantage in the postseason continues. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00pm at the RHS gymnasium against the Rival Huskies, who the Garnets defeated 59-35 on December 22, 2025. Watch it here. Replay the win vs Nyack here.
