The #3 Rye Girls Basketball team continued their Golden Ball title defense with a 60-42 win over Suffern on Wednesday, February 25. The Garnets defended home court for the final time in 2025-26 thanks to a hot start and consistent shooting from the field to eliminate the Mounties and advance to the Final Four in the Sectional tournament.
Rye kicked off the action by knocking down their first three triples, forcing Suffern to call a timeout with the score 9-0. Immediately after the quick break, Phoebe Greto converted an ‘and-one’ to extend the Garnet lead to 12-0. That cushion was needed, as Suffern rallied all the way back to take a 26-25 lead at halftime.
Whatever Head Coach Margo Hackett said at halftime seemed to work, as Rye won the third quarter 17-5, which ended with a loud standing ovation from the home fans in attendance. aThe Garnets continued to roll into the fourth to lead to the 60-42 victory.
Phoebe Greto and Stella Maresca scored 18 and 16 points respectively to lead Rye, who found great success driving the basketball to the rim, especially in the second half. Greot looked shifty and hardly guardable, with her braced right leg showing no ill-effects. Frankie Chiaravalle, Charlotte Storz, and Annie Toulouse all came within one basket of double-digit points, as all five starters scored efficiently.
#3 Rye (18-4, 2-0 postseason) advance to the Final Four in Section 1 Class AA. They will head to the County Center on Monday, March 2, for a 3:00pm matchup in the semifinals with either #2 Ossining or #7 Lakeland. Replay the quarterfinals win over Suffern here.
