The Rye Baseball team started off the season with an Opening Day loss on Friday, March 27, failing to string good at-bats together in a 1-0 defeat. The Zees only generated one run on two hits, but that was enough on a cold afternoon.
Sophomore Clayton McCarthy settled in after ceding an earned run in the first inning, ending with 4.2 innings pitched and only two hits. He was lifted with three strikeouts and after 79 pitches. The only hit for Rye came off the bat of catcher Jackson Pineault, who also walked. Rye batters struck out six times and went 1-21 on the day.
The Garnets (0-1) will look to get in the win column when they head to Disney World for their yearly preseason trip to the Sunshine State. They play Pelham and Ketcham next week.
