Rye Boys Varsity Squash head coach Quan Huynh has named his MVP for the 2026 season: senior Philip Nemeth.

“Philip was a dependable captain and leader of the boys squash program,” Huynh told MyRye.com. “He is a team player and willing to do what is necessary in order for the team to be successful.”

Nemeth was one of seven starters for the Garnets in 2026, his fourth year in the program. When healthy, he and the Garnets were nearly impossible to match up with, regardless of their opponent. As well as being an impact player on the court, the senior co-captain was a crucial leader off the court, guiding the Garnets to Nationals in late February.

‘[Nemeth] was instrumental in organizing captains’ practices, as well as sending regular communications to members of the team,” Huynh continued. “He is a mature young man and has shown tremendous growth as a squash player.”

It is unclear where Rye would’ve been without their co-captain this past season, but thankfully that is not something they had to thinkabout. The Garnets should have another strong season in 2027, although they will have to do it without a key starter and leader in Philip Nemeth.
