The Rye Girls Lacrosse team came within 2:47 of a sectional championship trophy in 2025, and Head Coach Michelle Mason has plenty of exciting talent returning from last year in her fifth season at the helm. The goal remains the same as every year: start with a Class C title, and try to keep winning from there.

“We are so excited for an awesome season of Rye Girls Lacrosse,” Mason told MyRye.com before the season. We look forward to building on our systems and playing dynamic, high paced Garnet Lax.”

After a 14-5 season in 2025, the Garnets graduated some serious talent such as Katherine Ebeling, Mary Sack, Kathleen Denvir, and Caroline Doyle. However, Beau Whaling is back for her senior season alonside Paige Tepedino and Clare Nemsick. Those three will serve as captains this year on Mason’s leadership contingent.

“We have super gritty, hungry players ready to take home the class C title,” Mason said of the entire roster.

The Garnets have a competitive schedule for 2026, especially in non-league play. They face multiple top-ranked out-of-state opponents such as Darien, New Canaan, Wilton, Ridgefield, and Greenwich. Those five schools possibly represent the five best teams in Connecticut.

Among teams in Rye’s league, the team has already circled May 5 on their calendars. The Garnets take on Nyack on Cinco de Mayo, a rematch of the 2025 sectional championship game. The RedHawks earned a one-goal victory by way of a late winner. “Nyack is always a great rivalry game for us,” Mason told MyRye.com.

Rye Athletics have already had an outstanding academic year, counting both the fall and spring seasons, and the girls lacrosse team has the potential to bring several pieces of hardware home, as they did in 2024, when they came up one win short of a State title.

The Garnets are already 1-0 on the young 2026 season thanks to a 15-7 victory over Pelham in the season opener yesterday. Their next contest is on Friday on the road against Bronxville.
