The Rye Softball team fell in a barnburner on Monday, April 13, as Albertus Magnus topped them 14-11 in the Garnets’ home opener. Rye jumped out to a 4-1 lead after two innings and continued to hit, but the Falcons outslugged them in a game that covered the over.

Penelope Gilmore launched her second home run in as many games in the bottom of the 2nd inning, giving Rye a 2-1 lead. She also added a run scoring double and single to end the day with three hits and four runs batted in. She continues to surge in the leadoff spot in the lineup, and has shown off a new power stroke in recent at-bats.

Caroline Joyce went 3-3 with a double and two runs. Reese McGill had two base knocks and two RBIs out of the two hole. Rye’s 1-5 batters went a combined 10-20 with eight of the eleven Garnet runs.

Rye (1-3) travels to Eastchester for their next game on Wednesday, April 15, a 4:30pm start time against the Eagles.
