About the Artist
Stacey Massey is the author of First Light, Rye and a contributor to our Art of Rye series. Massey invites you to join her dawn walks in Rye, New York, where each morning reveals a new face of the sky.
Sometimes hushed in pinks and silvers, other times blazing with clouds that argue and embrace at once, these moments capture the delicate balance of peace and power at daybreak. Through her lens, Massey transforms the meeting of sea and sun, the calls of the birds, and silhouettes of nature into meditations on presence, renewal and wonder.
With a gift for finding poetry in the everyday, Stacey turns early mornings into stories of light and life. First Light is both a photographic journey and a personal reflection, a love letter to the beauty that greets those who rise early enough to meet it.
Massey lives in Rye with her husband and two children. Growing up in England, she was a competitive gymnast, which sparked her love for travel as she competed across Europe and the U.S. with Camberley Gymnastics Club. Her passion for photography began during her time in San Francisco but paused when she became a mother. In 2023, Stacey reignited her creative journey, fulfilling her lifelong dream of capturing the Aurora Borealis. Her love for photography also fuels her early morning walks along the Long Island Sound, where she embraces the vibrant beauty of dawn that nature offers each day.
