The Rye Baseball team snapped a short three-game losing streak with a critical win on Wednesday, April 29, as they topped Suffern 8-2. Back at home, Rye lead throughout the contest on the back of more exceptional pitching for win number ten on the season.
The Garnets wasted no time jumping into the lead, as Nolan Hutson singled, stole second, and scored on a mammoth home run from Jamie Morris. Morris went 3-4 with an additional triple and single, scoring three times and driving in a season-high five runs. He came just a double shy of the cycle.
Hutson came around to score three times in a 2-4 day. He and Morris were two of six Garnets with multiple hits in the ballgame. The first five hitters in the order all had at least two knocks and either a run or RBI. All nine hitters reached base at least once.
On the mound, Michael Talbott earned his third win of the year with five scoreless innings. He struck out five. After not pitching any meaningful innings last year, the senior has quietly become a valuable asset on Head Coach Michael Bruno’s staff alongside Michael Bubeck and ace Clayton McCarthy.
Rye (10-5) has five games left on their regular season slate before the postseason begins. They travel to Eastchester on Friday, May 1, for a 4:30pm start in their next contest.
