The Rye Boys Lacrosse team handled business on senior night on Thursday, April 23, downing Horace Greeley 14-3. The Garnets entered the contest as heavy favorites and wasted no time turning senior night into a memorable blowout at Nugent Stadium.
“Tonight was a night to honor the seniors,” Head Coach Jeremy Guski told MyRye.com after the win. “We really played like a team and it was a great win against a good team.”
The Garnets honored their seven seniors before the game and then played like they were motivated to win for them as soon as the first quarter began. The Quakers scored early in the game to cut their deficit to 2-1 before watching Rye promptly score the next nine goals of the half.
Underclassman Will Niejadlik had 4 goals and 1 assist to lead all scorers, while Henry Gilroy, senior Carson Miller, and senior Henry Shoemaker all compiled four points apiece. Seniors Nigel Strazzini, Thomas Goldszer, and Charlie Brady, and freshman Johnny Shoemaker all added goals as well. Sam Lamont had a career game to make the final score lopsided, making 14 saves for a remarkable .824 save percentage.
Rye (6-2) is heating up at the right time after starting the year 1-2. The Garnets have a non-league challenge on their hands in their next game on Saturday, April 25. Rye hosts Don Bosco Prep at 3:00pm looking for their sixth consecutive victory. Watch it here. Replay the senior night win here.
