The Rye Boys Tennis team earned their second win in as many tries on Tuesday, April 7, downing Clarkstown South 5-2. The Garnets earned team victories in all four doubles matches, propelling them to another comfortable win to start their season.
“I was very proud of how the players took their matches seriously and capitalized on their strengths to pull out a strong victory,” Head Coach Sue Dickson told MyRye.com. “With our depth, we can play any player in the lineup with confidence.”
The #1 doubles pairing of Lou Kim-Reuter and Filip Glitterstam easily glid past their counterparts 6-0, 6-2, setting the tone for the rest of the day. At second doubles, Marcos Becker and Xavier Morell did not drop a set in a 6-0, 6-0 sweep. Behind them, Tayga Vural and Philip Karajannis at third doubles and Rajan Patel and Carter Hudspeth at fourth both dominated their matches by identical 6-2, 6-0 scores.
The only single Garnet to claim victory was Henry Groves at the top spot, easing past the Rams’ Chris Cho 6-1, 6-0. “The points were hard-fought, but Henry played with skill, consistency, and craftiness,” Dickson said. “It was a super win. He was composed and commanding the whole match.”
Luke Gordon and Timothy Morell fell in their singles matches, although both were noticeably closer than any of Rye’s wins. Morell, in his first varsity match without a doubles partner, lose the first set 6-1 before storming back in set two (6-3), but ultimately losing in the supertiebreaker.
“For the second match of the year, the Garnets are finding their footing,” Dickson continued.
Rye (2-0) will look for their third win of the year in their next match on Thursday, April 9. The Garnets travel to John Jay-Cross River to take on the Wolves at 4:30pm.
