The Rye Girls Golf team narrowly defeated Wappinger Falls in their first match of the 2026 season on Thursday, April 9, taking it 251-265. A close match at points, Rye pulled ahead and kept their foot on the gas to begin the year 1-0 in the crossover matchup.

“The senior play of Phoebe Lee, Tori Hobbins, and junior Anna Bancroft led the Garnets in their first match of the season,” Head Coach Rich Savage told MyRye.com. “The girls competed through cold and windy conditions.”

Uncooperative weather is not uncommon at the beginning of every season, especially during the rainy month of April, but the Garnets pushed through to secure the victory. Lee, Hobbins, and Bancroft were crucial to that success, steadily outplaying their opponents from Wappinger Falls.

Rye (1-0) will travel to Siwanoy Country Club to take on Bronxville on Monday, April 13, in their next match – their first in league play.
