The Rye Girls Rugby team played their first three matches of the season on Thursday, April 9, winning the last one 19-15. The Garnets topped Horace Mann after falling to New Rochelle and Harvey to begin the hectic matchday.

“Overall, it was a successful first game day for the Garnets,” Head Coach Geri Jones told MyRye.com. Her team’s steady improvement throughout the day showed the staff good signs of life, as Rye sought to shake off the rust and find their form.

Alex Merrell, Penelope Ramos, and Maria Kostco all scored one try in the four-point victory over Horace Mann. Ramos also converted two-of-three conversion kicks, which served crucial in a game where the Lions went 0-3 on those same plays, costing them the victory.

Merrell and Ramos both scored tries in the 19-10 loss to Harvey, the Garnets’ second of three matches. They had previously suffered a 22-0 defeat to New Rochelle, who look dangerous early on in 2026.

Rye (1-2) will play another series of games next Thursday, April 16, as their consolidated schedule enters its second week.
